Edge of Civilization

Book

What is the future for men

who have lost sight of the past?

For thirty years Earl lived in isolation miles from Las Vegas with little recollection of his past. One night a helicopter flew overhead and Earl saw it as a sign to find his way back to civilization.

So Earl journeyed into the desert carrying basic food supplies, whiskey and survival items found in his old locker. On his journey he experienced the history of mankind - a simple man looking for intelligent life, a young man soliciting faith and a gathering of people fighting oppression. It was a young woman name Elisabeth who rejuvenated his quest to seek a new place in this world.

Finding his way closer to civilization, he was picked up for vagrancy. Taken to an outreach for homeless veterans, Earl discovered his past was something even he couldn’t imagine. According of the US Army, Earl died in the Vietnam War and he no longer  existed.

Reviews

"A compelling tale of a man's quest to find his identity and return home. This multi-layered story raises many issues for the reader - what is home, the importance placed on outward appearance in our society, what is a hero, is civilization a forward process. This is a very sensitive and thought provoking book. "

Memorial:

Honoring those who have fallen, but not passsed.

This country prides itself with its support for our soldiers - they fight, they bleed and many die for our country, but many return with scars not visible. Their scars are emotional and mental and many brave young men who fought hard for their country return, having a hard time reestablishing to civilian society. One again I will quote Guy Sager, whose words I will never forget.

"A day came when I should have died

and after that nothing seemed very important

so I stayed as I am, without regret

separated from the normal human condition."
